Statement on the fishing industry's compensation claim - Tuesday, January 31, 2012

The Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) has always been keen to provide compensation to commercial fishers as required for the loss of access to fishing grounds caused by the Western Basin Dredging Project. GPC’s estimate from fisheries data of the total annual gross revenue from the commercial seafood harvest in the Western Basin is around $350,000 to $400,000. read more ...

As part of the adaptive approach to manage the dredging project, a voluntary suspension of cutter suction dredging is in place. GPC has a Community Support Program in place that seeks to provide support for the Gladstone and regional communities in the areas of:

health & welfare;

education;

art, music & cultural activities;

environmental initiatives; and

major events.

Support for these areas takes different forms - financial, in-kind or the provision of labour and equipment.
