Students learn about Gladstone harbour science - Tuesday, May 08, 2012
Gladstone Central State School students learnt about the science behind the GPC Western Basin Dredging and Disposal Project in the Gladstone harbour last week. As part of the Western Basin Dredging and Disposal Project (WBDDP) schools program, year six and seven students were taught about water turbidity and metals and what it means within the Gladstone harbour.

Cutter suction dredging suspended during high turbidity levels in Gladstone harbour - Tuesday, May 08, 2012
The Al Mahaar Cutter Suction Dredge operations were reduced on Saturday 5 May and ceased operating at 5.55pm on Sunday 6 May. The recent lunar events have meant a very large tidal range is recorded in the area and is having a significant effect on water turbidity in Gladstone harbour. read more ...

Procedure for applying for an MSIC through GPC

Complete the online MSIC Awareness Training
 After reading through the online MSIC Awareness Training, complete the information page at the end before downloading and printing a copy of your certificate and application form.
 MSIC Validitiy Options: applicable from 1 October 2011

As of 4 April 2012 MSIC prices are:
 New/renewal - 2 year: $250
 New/renewal - 4 year: $400
 Provisional/ASIC: $150
 Replacement: $100

Application process:
 Option 1
- Make an appointment with the MSIC office to have your application processed face to face. Please phone 07 4976 1270 or email msic@gpcl.com.au
 Option 2 - Submit the application form, all associated documentation and photos via post to GPC MSIC Office, PO Box 259, Gladstone QLD 4680

Option 1 - What you need to bring to the MSIC interview
 The application form together with the awareness certificate (from completing the online awareness training)
 A full birth certificate, or a copy of a full birth certificate that has been certified by a JP or Commissioner for Declarations, or a current valid passport
 A current driver licence
 A letter of operational need with your company's logo on the letterhead
 A receipt of payment - payment to be made at the GPC MSIC Office at 44 Goondoon Street prior to the appointment.  Accepted payment methods are cash, cheque, eftpos or credit card
 Note: for applications attached to a Visa, a copy of your Visa is required together with any associated documentation from the Department of Immigration & Citizenship

Option 2 - What you need to submit for postal MSIC applications
 The application form together with the awareness certificate (from completing the online awareness training)
 A certified copy (by either a JP or Commissioner of Declarations) of a current driver licence
 Two passport size photos (see requirements below)
 A letter of operational need with your company's logo on the letterhead
 A receipt of payment - accepted payment methods are cash, cheque, eftpos or credit card
 Note: for applications attached to a Visa, a copy of your Visa is required together with any associated documentation from the Department of Immigration & Citizenship

After processing the application, either via personal interview or postal application, the MSIC Office will be in contact to advise your application has been approved and that the card is available for collection or postage. This process can take approximately 1-4 weeks.

Letter of operational need
When providing a letter of operational need it will need to state that the applicant requires an MSIC for one of the following reasons:
 works for the maritime industry
 has a business connection with the maritime industry, such as a transport operator
 is a representative of an employee association whose members access a maritime security zone
 is a representative of a maritime offshore facility industry

Passport size photo
The photograph must:
 show head and top of shoulders close up, so that face measures between 32mm and 36mm from the bottom of the chin to the crown (top of head without hair)
 show your shoulders square on (not looking over shoulder)
 show your face square on (edges of face visible)
 show you looking straight at the camera (not tilted head)
 be taken with a neutral expression and your mouth closed (not laughing or frowning)
 show your eyes open and clearly visible (no hair in eyes)
 if you usually wear glasses, you do not have to wear them for your photograph, but if you do they must show your eyes clearly, no flash reflection off the glasses, no tinted lenses
 the photograph must show you without any hat or other head covering. However, if you wear a head covering for religious reasons we will accept a photograph of you wearing it, but your facial features from bottom of chin to top of forehead and both edges of your face must be clearly shown
