Paint the Port Kicks Off Harbour Festival Celebrations

Gladstone Ports Corporation’s (GPC) Paint the Port Art Competition has returned to the regions Easter celebrations for 2019.

Artists put their tools to good practice, using their skills to present their unique portrayals of port activities and infrastructure.

GPC Acting CEO Craig Walker said the competition provides both amateur and professional artists from Gladstone, Bundaberg and Rockhampton the opportunities to showcase their talents.

“Artists from around our region are encouraged to be creative in their interpretation of our port facilities and create works for the whole community to enjoy,” Mr Walker said.

Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum Curator Jo Duke was joined by GPC’s People, Community and Sustainability General Manager Rowen Winsor as this year’s judging panel.

They were impressed with the quality and depth of works submitted in this year’s competition across all four fields.

“This has been another tough year to judge, everyone has such a unique interpretation of our operations,” Ms Winsor said.

“It’s evident that the artists have spent countless hours creating their pieces and everyone should be incredibly proud of the exhibition.

“The calibre of entrants only highlights the competition as a wonderful inclusion to the number of activities occurring in Gladstone over the Easter long weekend.”

The 2019 Paint the Port winners are:

  • Open category Jane Steers
  • High school category Khushi Patel
  • Upper primary school category Charlotte Sparks
  • Lower primary school category Pahal Patel

GPC will be acquiring Jane Steer’s Open category winning piece, “Melville”, and plans to donate it to Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum’s permanent collection.
