Fisherman's Landing Northern Expansion Project |
The Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) proposes to reclaim over 150 ha of land extending northwards from the
existing Fisherman’s Landing Port facility, 10 kilometres north of Gladstone City. The area is currently
below the high water mark in Gladstone Harbour and is regarded as unallocated state land. The existing
Fisherman’s Landing Port Facility accommodates a multi-user Bulk Liquids Wharf, Cement Australia’s
cement and clinker wharf, RTA Yarwun’s wharf and Orica Australia’s bulk liquid ammonia tank.
The reclaimed land would enable an additional six (6) wharves to be built alongside the existing facility to
support future demand for transport, storage and loading and unloading facilities. It is intended that
development of the wharf facilities will serve future industries to be located within the Gladstone State
Development Area (GSDA) and will be linked via the Materials Transport Corridor, however the proposed
reclamation is not within the GSDA.
The development of Gladstone’s port facilities is considered a key part in the Central Queensland
transport chain and an essential component of economic development for the region. Further industrial
development in the region will support the growth of local industry, boost employment and build a strong
and diversified regional economy.
Consultants GHD have conducted the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on behalf of the GPC and the Queensland
State government. The EIS explores and assesses potential environmental, cultural, social and economic adverse
and beneficial impacts and recommends approaches to manage these impacts. A final decision on the EIS is expected
in late 2009.
The five week public exhibition period has now concluded and submissions are being considered.
