Acting CEO Letter to Customers and Valued Partners, RGTCT Reaches 40 Years

Dear Customers and Valued Partners,

From humble beginnings 106 years ago, our Port has worked together with our customers and valued partners to become recognised as Australia’s premiere multi-commodity port. One of the keys to our success over the last half century has been the growth of our RG Tanna Coal Terminal, which tomorrow reaches 40 years of operations. The facility was officially opened on 7 May 1980, by Sir James McNeill, Chairman of BHP and the honourable Joh Bjelke-Petersen, Premier of Queensland.

Clinton Coal Facility, as it was known for the first 14 years of operations, saw its first shipment of coal leave the wharf just two weeks prior to the official opening on Sunday 20 April 1980, aboard the MV Iron Capricorn. The vessel sailed with 26,196 tonnes destined for Port Pirie in South Australia - a far cry from the hundreds of thousand tonnes we load today on Capesize vessels, showing just how far our role in the supply chain has grown and evolved.

Over the past 40 years, the terminal has seen two major expansions, allowing us to increase our trade throughput and become one of Queensland’s largest coal exporters. This would not have been possible without your trust in GPC to handle and export your product all over the world. Today, we have a reputation for excellence as the leading coal blending facility, thanks to our partnership and your valued support.

GPC will continue to innovate, lead the way with technology such as our Coal to Coast and Dozer Telemetry systems. We have a strong focus on intergenerational planning, ensuring we support the supply chain for the next 50 years and beyond. We pride ourselves on the relationships we hold with you and the friendships that exist and will be made going forward.

It is an honour and humbling to be part of GPC during this period as we celebrate this great milestone, as I’m sure it is for some of you, our customers who have been with us since the beginning. I thank you for the commitment, support and guidance over the last four decades of operations at RG Tanna Coal Terminal.

GPC will continue to operate in a collaborative and community-minded way, working to ensure that all members of our supply chain reach every success.

Warm Regards,

Craig Walker
