Exercise Dreadnought tests emergency response
Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) and stakeholders at Auckland Point have tested their communication and evacuation processes in an emergency response exercise.
Exercise Dreadnought simulated a motor vehicle accident on site, resulting in a ruptured pipeline and uncontrolled fire.
GPC Acting CEO Craig Walker said the cooperation of stakeholders, including Auckland Point tenants, nearby industry, emergency services and Maritime Safety Queensland, made the exercise a success.
“Field exercises such as this provide us with an opportunity to test and assess the effectiveness of our communication and emergency response processes,” Mr Walker said.
“The outcomes then inform any changes required to our Emergency Management Plan to ensure that we can act quickly and appropriately in the event an incident does occur.”
The site was evacuated without incident and employees were able to return to their duties upon completion of the exercise.
A full review of the exercise will be conducted to identify any continuous improvement opportunities.
