Harbour tours provide port overview
Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) took over 430 students around the Port of Gladstone this week as they kicked off their harbour tour program.
Year six students from nine schools across the Gladstone region will participate in the tours, hosted every year in term one.
People, Community and Sustainability General Manager Rowen Winsor said the tours provide an overview of the port, touching on key areas of interest.
“The harbour tours are a fantastic program that allow us the opportunity to connect with the year six students and give them a great overview of our operations,” Ms Winsor said.
“Key areas of interest are environmental sustainability, history and community.
“The tour focuses on the ‘Importance of Ports’ with shipping being the most sustainable and cost-effective method of transport of products and materials around the world.
“The program aims to deliver education opportunities for students through direct alignment with year six curriculum outcomes, particularly in Humanities and Social Sciences.”
