Trailer to assist local lifesavers
Local volunteer lifesavers will be better equipped to monitor our beaches this year, with Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club receiving a sponsorship as part of Gladstone Ports Corporation’s (GPC) Community Investment Program (CIP).
The purpose-built mobile patrol trailer will be fitted out with storage racks to hold patrol tents, rescue boards, rescue tubes, flags, chairs, buoys, anchors and first-aid equipment for volunteers.
People, Community and Sustainability General Manager Rowen Winsor said the trailer will improve safety and alleviate OH&S concerns for volunteer members.
“We are proud to support the local Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club with this initiative,” Ms Winsor said.
“As a coastal community, with a love for the outdoors and our beautiful region, this will be a well-used investment for volunteers that will help keep our community safe.
“Our Community Investment Program allows us to further support the community's in which we operate, beyond just the economic contribution of our operations.”
Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club Publicity Officer Rebecca Devine said the trailer is built to withstand our tough beach weather conditions and will last for many years.
“The trailer will safely store additional first-aid and life-saving equipment which would otherwise not be immediately available for use by Life Savers,” Ms Devine said.
“It will improve our operational capacity and increase community and member safety, which is a great outcome for everyone.”
GPC take pride in their community partnerships, investing over $2.8 million annually into the regions in which they operate.
